Douglas Bay,
Gambier Island, BC

About Douglas Bay

Douglas Bay consists of water and non-waterfront acreages located at the northeast corner of Gambier Island. This is a growing community of helpful, proud, private neighbours.

It is important to note:
There are no public docks available.
There is no central road network over and around Gambier.
There is no hunting or trespassing.

Forest activities dominated the early development of Gambier until the 1930’s when more settlers set up year-round and summer residences. 1974 Islands Trust Act and the 1979 Gambier Island Zoning By-law now limits development on Gambier to recreational, residential or forestry. Source The original name of Gambier is Cha7élkwnech, referring to the deep protected bays that the island offers. Gambier was a celebrated deer hunting area by the Squamish People and was extensively used for resource gathering. Source
